Travel to and from San Antonio

    Several interstate highways lead to San Antonio, including Interstate 10 from the east (Houston) and west (El Paso), Interstate 35 from the north (Austin, Dallas/Ft. Worth) and south (Laredo), and Interstate 37 from the southeast (Corpus Christi).  The 1640 campus is located approximately 2 miles west of the intersection of Interstate 10 and Texas highway 1604.  The University is on the south side of the highway.

    San Antonio is served by Amtrak lines from the west (The Sunset Limited Route), south and north (The Texas Eagle Route).  The San Antonio Amtrak Station is located at 350 Hoefgen Street, San Antonio, TX 78205.  More information on rail service is available at http://www.amtrak.com.   

    San Antonio International Airport is conveniently located centrally in the metropolitan area at the intersection of US 281 and Interstate 410.  Airlines serving San Antonio include Aerolitoral, American Airlines, America West, Continental, Continental Express, Delta, Delta Connection Carriers (ASA, Comair and Skywest), Frontier, Mexicana, Midwest, Northwest, Southwest, Sky West and United.  These airlines collectively offer non-stop service to 31 different markets.  Over 260 flights per day are available to San Antonio.  For more information on San Antonio’s airport, visit http://www.sanantonio.gov/aviation

Visiting San Antonio

    If your schedule permits, there are many attractions to visit while in San Antonio.  The world-famous Alamo and Riverwalk are downtown, approximately 20 miles from UTSA.  The San Antonio Zoo is also nationally recognized for its beauty and diverse collection of species.  Both Sea World and Six Flags offer family entertainment.  Adjacent to the campus is La Cantera, a golf resort and hotel.  The Shops at La Cantera offer a wide variety of shopping and dining options.  For more information on what to do while you are in town, go to the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau website at http://www.sanantoniocvb.com.

Weather

    January weather in San Antonio is typically very mild.  Average temperatures for San Antonio for January are a high temperature of 65 F/19 C and a low of 35 F/2 C.  The best advice is to bring several layers of light clothing, especially as the conference will be indoors in buildings, while the outside air may be cool and dry.
